Commercial experience

Uhde's experience in the design of steam reformers dates back to the 1960s when the company commenced development work in this field. Today, Uhde's reference list accounts for more than 60 steam reformers.

Twelve hydrogen projects have been contracted since 1991. Two contracts for large-scale hydrogen units were awarded to the Uhde / Parsons alliance by SINCOR, Venezuela, and Shell, Canada, in 1999. Both plants are based on the Uhde steam reformer technology.

The Venezuelean plant has a capacity of 2 x 98,000 Nm3/h of hydrogen. This plant is integrated into a large crude oil upgrader complex in Jose, 200 kilometres northeast of Caracas.
The Shell hydrogen plant at Scotford, 350 kilometres north of Calgary, is believed to be the largest hydrogen plant of the world. Its capacity is 2 x 130,000 Nm3/h of hydrogen for the conversion of bitumen and oil sands to lighter hydrocarbons.

Recently, Uhde has been awarded two new contracts for refinery hydrogen: A large plant for Neste Oil Oy in Finland with a capacity of 153,500 Nm3/h and a smaller plant with a capacity of 39,000 Nm3/h in Belarus.
