The world's first plant for the commercial-scale application of the Morphysorb® process
for desulphurisation of natural gas was commissioned in December 2002 in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The plant was originally designed for bulk removal with a different widely used physical solvent, but use of the Morphysorb® solvent promised to meet the meanwhile increased requirements for the amount of acid gas to be removed.
The Morphysorb® solvent has also led to an increase in plant capacity and a reduction in operational costs without additional investment.
The plant, in which the acid gas is re-injected into a depleted natural gas reservoir upon removal, is one of the world's largest facilities of this type with a capacity of more than 1,000 tonnes of hydrogen sulphide per day.
Uhde has more than 25 years of experience in the application of morpholine derivatives for the recovery of high-purity aromatics. We also have broad experience in the design and implementation of gas treatment plants.
